Crista - The Reckoning

September 12, 2009

high school

February 11, 2009

i dont know bout you guys, but me, i got fond memories of my high school years. Who would forget Ka Ado’s half-inch spectacles, the canteen’s cheese pimiento & Ka Marlen na inuutangan ni “________” hehehhe, Punzalan doing his infamous “joey de leon” antics, the auditorium and the mini canteen beside it, the library where studes take a mid-day nap, the radio station on the 3rd floor, the generator (at the back of the canteen i think), the CR’s where we sneak in para mag-yosi, the thursday afternoons where alot of peeps troop to the nearby locale, the cashier’s miss manalili & her eyelashes & hairdo (i dunno if it’s a wig or not), ms guevarra hounding studes not in their respective room during class hours, t’was the time when you treat your teachers like your 2nd mom.

Since t’was the 80’s “baston” dapat ang pants mo, may zipper, pardible or sintas ung laylayan. Haruta, Sebago, Dayfull, Chaser, Glenmore, Espadrille or TopSider naman ang shoes mo. The dance craze is breakdancing, strutt & funk. Ang Bag mo naman dapat knapsack or attache case. Dapat noon nagma-mantika ang ulo mo sa pawis at Gel or Mousse. Uber-cool ka noon pag may Walkman ka (wala pang cd’s noon) listening to michael “jackass”on, madonna,New Wave & Pop Beats. These are the essentials at that time. And oh man, I wouldn’t trade those days for nothin’.

as i look back on the way i was then, a young curious & adventurous kid w/o problems. well now, that kid has long gone, all is left is a middle-aged man with responsibilities, mortgage & 3 extra mouths to feed (i got 2 teenage kids heheh).

Reflections

December 22, 2008

There’s always been something bittersweet about the holidays; sure, they’re joyful, festive, etcetera, but coming as they do in the waning weeks of the year, they’re also a time for recollection and self-recrimination, of shoulda-dones and coulda-beens.

And this year’s been quite a bit more bitter than sweet. I lost my father & some relatives & friends this  year,(na pe-peste na ata kami) everyone’s dying like flies out here and I’m getting used to it na.

Economy of this darn country is in shambles, you could feel it to the bone. We’re no longer in times of plenty. Our new reality is resource scarcity and economic crisis. I got lot of bills to pay that keeps on piling up. Now I’m trying to reconsider the meaning of “necessity.” saving for my children’s education, yes, family vacation, no? ooops…family vacation, yes, new laptop for my wife, no? Quad Core Dream PC - sorry, son, no. Aagh! OK, yes (It’s for me hehehhe). a new touch screen digicam for my daughter? OK, Ayesha I’ll buy that thingie bukas.

With this in mind, My wife is revamping our gift list. Instead of giving less, We’re going to give differently -making and doing rather than buying. She’s spending hours doing picture slideshows as gifts for friends and relatives on her laptop (a labor of love indeed).

I’m making a mini-documentary of my late father for my mom, the woman who deserves everything and wants nothing. She never asked for anything last christmas ( buti na lang, makakatipid hehehe)

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Christmas Tree

November 22, 2008

went to my mom’s place yesterday, as usual, i just lay there alone on the couch on front of the TV like i always do.hours passed, when i got this feeling that something is missing here, something is just not right and i just cant figure out what it is.

Oh well, i just continued channel surfing then i chanced upon the an old rerun of “Home Alone”, only then that i realized what i’m missing. It’s the christmas tree!

as far as i can remember, my dad religiously set up our Christmas tree every year, decorates it and our house with xmas lights etc. He’s been doing it for so long its just like a fixed action pattern to him. Even with his deteriorating health, he was able to set it up last year.

its mid-November now, by this time my dad should’ve been finished with all those stuff. What’s left here now is a blank spot where our xmas tree once stood every year.

Now that he’s gone. who’s gonna do the xmas tree? the Christmas light and decors? Well. I just don’t know .

Another One Bites the Dust

October 13, 2008

My lola beth died last night. As a child i was so close to her, she’s like a yaya to me. I got fond memories of her, like waiting for her everynight at the doorsteps of our house, because i would’nt go to sleep unless she tucks me to bed, thats how close we were.

The death of a loved one can be a trying time. Making funeral arrangements, coping up with grief, and finalizing everything. It can take so much time and energy when you have little to spare. I know it because I’ve been in that kinda situation before, it’s only been months since my father died.

My Officemates Hates Me

September 23, 2008

I Showed up late at work this morning, went to my room as usual, fired up my pc, fixed myself a cup of coffee, the same old daily routine.

My officemates frequently annoys the crap out of me. When they pass by my room they always leave my friggin door slightly open (potek kasi hindi sila makakapunta sa room nila nang hindi dadaan sa room ko), at ang masakit daan sila ng daan, nakakaistorbo na talaga. And yet kahit ganon sila, I’m still friendly to them, I still listen to their constant bullshit (usapang bukol). Because their room is right next to mine, they really dont have any option but to pass through my room to get to theirs. So telling them not to pass here and leave me alone (as I frequently want to do) is not really an option. So thats my life, waiting until the clock hits 5pm, time for them to scram and for me to have a little peace and quite, since im still goin’ to work my sorry ass up to 8 in the evening.

But this morning is a little different, when i arrived, our auditor told me that the whole accounting department is mad at me, duh… ako nga dapat maasar sa kanila eh. Then he told me why they are so mad, Uh oh, thats when i realized that i made a big blunder. Yesterday my boss gave me a Durian fruit. Since i dont eat that kinda fruit, I left the half-rotting, funky smelling Durian fruit in the Accounting room overnight.

So that’s where their room got its pungent stench, Boy, they smell like shit!!!  hehehehe….

Dirty Laundry

September 20, 2008

It’s hard to blog these days. Not just because I don’t have time, but when I do “cheat the clock” there’s a lot of guilt that I’d be wasting minutes writing on here when I could be doing something productive instead.

Right now I’m actually trapped in my office while the cleaning service works around me (it’s a saturday), so I have a good excuse, I guess.

Yep, last month i finally caved in, my battle with my dirty laundry finally engrossed me. I decided to really bring all my dirty stuffs to the laundry (just on the ground floor of our condo). In case you missed that fun-tidbit, in mid-July, My wife decided to stay with my mom and kids in bulacan though we both work here in manila. She stays there while i gotta stay in our crib in quezon city. Well, it’s fine and dandy at first, living alone, but after a couple of weeks, reality sets in. I’m in a dilemma here. Who’s gonna cook? do the dishes? do the cleaning? do the laundry? Since I dont cook, and i eat out, that means i get no dirty dishes, but the cleaning? that’s the hard stuff, struggled in polishing the floor, cleaning the bathroom etc.

Needless to say there’s been just as many setbacks and chores for me to do, and I had to suck in my pride, I gotta learn when to say “I ca’nt”, and admit for a change that I couldn’t do everything. And it’s been hard. Ask me again tomorrow hehehe.

Somehow along the way I also managed to be with my kids one day at a time, treat them out, eat and shop for them a little hehhee.

Oh yeah, and I’ll be shown on a popular sunday tv show tomorrow.

BTW, i was suprised the other day nakita ko na ang mga used briefs ko malinis na, that means umuwi na ung asawa ko minsan sa amin ng hindi ko alam.

And with that, i think my time in exile is about to come to an end…

Seventies

September 6, 2008

Mark WIllis - 1970 Something ()

As someone who grew up in the 80s, I sometimes find myself shamelessly indulging in nostalgia, in remembrance of quieter, more comprehensible things past. These occasional meanderings are often triggered by the return of an old song, say, or a conversation with an old, resurrected friend, or even just the random dredging of a memory fragment from long ago.

Then the odd, stupid smile involuntarily forms as a trippy free-association thread of thoughts, recollections and even hoary old advertising pitches starts to unravel.

Sure, times are tough. But remember: “Times like these, you need a Juicy.” Wish it were that simple. But, hey, a little nostalgic trivia-laden trip down memory lane could just be the cure for these present-day blues.

This is the Seventies!

Hey Israel! this is for you. Hehehehe, I can’t forget this dude, the “fashionista” of the seventies. Ito ang galante among my uncle’s buddies, kapag nanghingi ako pera dito, binibigyan ako lagi ng 25 to 50 cents nito hehehe.

* * *

I get this e-mail filled with 70s trivia and everything comes back. Go ahead and read it. See how many you can identify — and identify with. Thanks to the anonymous fellow or fellows who dreamed it up. (Hey, I tried to trace it back to the source. But finding the origins of an e-mail can be as hard as following the money trail of a narco-politician through the offshore banking system.)

My Old Man

May 7, 2008

Its been a while since i last put anything here in this blog, been too busy working and looking out for my dying father(he succumbed to cancer this Sunday and got cremated yesterday). Prior to February 2008 everything is just normal. All that changed when one day my mom told me “papa is sick again“, (Papa undergone chemo and cobalt treatment in 2001when he was diagnosed with hodgkin’s lymphoma). It was an extremely painful & stressful 3 months, but it was also a very special time, filled with love and a closeness that transcended our lives as
they previously existed. This experience taught me alot. I wish I had never had to learn it, but in some ways, I am grateful. I now truly know what it means to “live in the moment”. Thank you, Papa. I love you.

Ang alamat ng Balot

January 31, 2008

Salamat Po.

Year End according to ME

December 31, 2007

So anyway, went to Trinoma yesterday ( a nearby mall). The queue from between cashiers were freakishly long but then again, it was expected with the recent bonus and salary. Bought a couple of shirts and pants, time to upgrade the wardrobe hehehe. But it was kinda sad too (poor me and my depleted wallet).

This afternoon i took a bus goin to my mom's place in the north of the Metro. Whew, the northbound traffic is really heavy, now I learned to appreciate bus drivers, they also have problems with ignorant drivers. Nyeh! Some were just plain rude that they did not want to give way even if their cars were just inches away from us! They just didn’t want to give way! Utterly rude!!

And also, again, those people who would cut queues at the toll gates. I’m like.. wtf man?

When the bus reached Bocaue, there was a hugeeeeeeeee number of people at the fireworks stalls by the roadside. here and there as coincidently, it was like pay day in Bocaue too. hehehe

This will just be a short entry, Bye folks! Happy New Year! see you guys next year!

Merry Christmas to all

December 24, 2007

I'm sitting here at home, with a glass of brandy in hand, enjoying the peace of my mom's house nestled in the north of the metro.

It's a lovely christmas eve here with just enough chill. (hindi naman kasi nagsno-snow d2 sa pinas eh).

It's also quiet in this house, with no little tykes up staying late. yearning for their gifts from Santa. (malalaki na kasi mga kids ko eh).

For my wife and me, it's a time of reflection, to sit back and look at how our kids are growing rapidly (as if they are on steroids hehehe.)

My mom got a visit from Meralco, she's kinda nervous at first, she's thinking na they'll gonna warn her for all those crazy & fancy xmas lights eating up her house (baka daw fire hazzard na eh) un pala nominated ung bahay niya na isa sa mga beautifuly decorated house sa place and she might win 20 grand.

Well, as for me, christmas is a welcome break from the craziness of the world. For no matter what your beliefs, it seems as if Christmas Day is the one time of the year when news takes a holiday, too. Especially bad news.

I like that. Let's keep it that way. As long as we can.

Happy holidays to you all.

Friday

November 24, 2007

Yesterday was not just any Friday. It was a special day. It was the first day in many weeks that I had no social engagements whatsoever. No dinners, drinking, gigs,  meetings, strange outings. Nothing. I can’t remember the last time that happened.

So I got a pizza, watched a dvd of Prison Break, drank coffee,  watched another episode of Prison Break, read a bit, and went to bed. A truly magical evening.  : )

Looks Vs. Status

November 6, 2007

Arrested Development

October 29, 2007

well, its the 29th of october, election day, liquor ban. so all you alcoholics out there, just let your liver chill out a little bit. The Beer month is almost over (Oktoberfest). my activities this october? well, went to Metrowalk a couple of times with friends, office mates, online friends and on one occasion i even brought my son Axel. my son drinking? nah, he just turned 14 (for crying out loud). while kenneth, ryan & myself were guzzling beer he's just sipping on milkshake. but why not let the kid have drink, asked him if he want to try it, he answered yes.  its much better if he'll have his first taste w/alcohol w/ his old man than learnin to drink with his barkadas. anyway, its not a hard drink or beer, i ordered him a raspberry vodka cruiser , he's kinda awkward in drinking it at first, but boy when he got the hang of it, the kid just loves it. It tastes like cough syrup daw but much tastier and delicious hehehe. after his first bottle, he's expecting that i'll order him another one, sabi ko " hoy, mas mahal pa nga ang mga iniinom mo kesa sa amin, nawili ka, saka na lang uli, sa christmas na lang siguro hehehhe"

threesome

October 9, 2007

Karla a.k.a "Bantot" ang babaeng may itlog

September 22, 2007

She's a hedonist, a former celestial body ("star" kasi yan lagi "paistar"), a recent addition to the human race, fashionistang baduy, handicapped by natural immaturity and also a glutton heheheh. She's a former  colleague of mine. I still remember the first time i saw her, Potek, nang ininterview ko yan nagulat ako, sinama pa niyan ang nanay niya. We've worked together for 3 long years, i gave this lady a taste of hell. I'm a very difficult person but i take comfort in the fact that God made me that way. Ah well, those were the good ol' days, she left the company 2 years ago, did a stint in the fuckin asian fashion scene. We saw each other last weekend, gobbled up on T-bone steak in QC, guzzled a couple of beers sa Metrowalk til the wee hours of the morning. Nothin changed, same old baklita na i used to know, makunat pa rin sa belekoy, takaw pa rin. Well, darating na si marvin (her fiancee) next year, hopefully they'll  be married by then. Sabi ko kasi mag-asawa na siya, get a life, para magkaroon siya ng sex life. mahirap na kasi pag matagal nababakante, nakakabobo yon, magiging peklat na lang yang peps niya at magsasara. heheheh. Good luck bantot! Wishing you the best in your future endeavors. : )

Buhay Flip

August 30, 2007
